RIPD Budget

The RIPD Budget is enacted by the General Assembly of Rhode Island every year. For the Fiscal Year ending June 30th, 2011, the total budget of the RIPD was enacted at just over $10 Million. About 95% of the appropriation ($9,590,261) comes from the state's general revenue and 5% ($450,140) comes from a number of federal grants. The federal projects funded during the current year are: (1) the Juvenile Response project which subsidizes early intervention by attorneys and social workers at arraignment of juvenile prosecutions; (b) public defender participation in the Rhode Island Adult Drug Court; (c) the Community Partnership program, which funds the Community Outreach Liaison as well as social work services for those defendants facing technical violations of felony probation for non-payment, non-appearance, and similar reasons; (d) the Tri-County Screening project which attempts to identify at an early stage cases that are appropriate for faster dispositions; and (e) the John R. Justice Loan Assistance Repayment program which the RIPD administers for Rhode Island.
