Criminal Justice Networks

The Rhode Island Public Defender is an active member of the greater criminal justice community, both in Rhode Island and nationally. As an agency, we belong to the National Legal Aid and Defender Association (NLADA), the American Council of Chief Defenders (ACCD), the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL) and the Community-Oriented Defender (COD) Network. We represent NLADA on the Global Justice Information Sharing Initiative, a federal advisory committee to advise the United States Attorney on justice information sharing and integration initiatives.

At the state level, we participate in a number of government and community efforts to improve criminal justice. We are a member of the Public Safety Grant Administration Office Policy Board as well as its Steering Committee. We also serve on the Supreme Court's Women and Minority Committee and the legislatively-enacted Task Force on Eyewitness Identification Reform. We serve in a consultant capacity to the Civil Rights Round Table, including to its Racial Profiling Task Force. We are also members of the Sex Offender Management Task Force. In addition, we actively partner with several community organizations on issues related to criminal justice reform and the collateral consequences of incarceration. For morre information about these partnerships, see the Community Partnership page.
